The project is related with phosphate rock and phosphorus (P) as critical raw materials (COM no. 490, 2017). In last years, European countries have already started actions in order to achieve P security on continent. In Baltic countries, the current P management involves waste and losses at every stage of its lifecycle. Therefore actions are needed to encourage sustainable management of phosphorus.
Project funding:
European Institute of Innovation and Technology Programme (EIT)
Project results:
The main goal of the project is to develop a Phosphorus Strategy for the Baltic Region, laying out a solid foundation and developing long-term solutions for the sustainable management of this critical raw material. It involves analysis of P flows, identification of the recovery potential for P in the Baltic region, identification of best management practices in advanced countries, transfer of knowledge and design of solutions for the sustainable use of phosphorus, and promotion of the closing of P cycle in the Baltic region.
