BIGDATA4RIVERS – Improving the European Rivers Water Quality through Smart Water Management Policies

On behalf of the Regional Development Fund of the Region of Attica on January 23-24, a project partner meeting of the INTERREG EUROPE BIGDATA4RIVERS project took place in Greece. During the meeting, project partner presented good practice visits: the National Park of Schinias and its wetland, Lake Marathon and the Aspos River. During the visits, they presented advanced monitoring methods of water contamination that allow more efficient use of natural resources and helps to monitor the water quality.On the second day of the meeting, the partners discussed water policy, problems and challenges in the project partner regions, and talked about further activities foreseen in the project. Each partner also presented good practices in water management and listened to University of Athens researchers’ presentations about recent surface water quality research.The BIGDATA4RIVERS project involves organisations from across the European Union. The project consortium comprises 4 governmental bodies: Iberian Association of Riverside Municipalities of Duero River (Spain), Regional Development Fund on behalf of the Region of Attica (Greece), The County Administrative Board of Ostergotland (Sweden), Intermunicipal Community of Alto Minho (Portugal), Water and Environment Competitiveness Cluster DREAM (France). Also, research institutions: Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania), and the National Union of Romanian Entrepreneurs (Romania).
